From IHI to KATO Works

Japanese made. U.S. customized and distributed. In November 2016, KATO Works acquired IHI Construction Machinery Limited, the former supplier of equipment for Compact Excavator Sales. With roots dating back to 1895, KATO Works has a long history of manufacturing equipment in Japan.

1895: KATO Iron Works is founded
1930: Reorganized as KATO Works Ltd. and begins manufacturing engines, tractors, road rollers, cranes, and more
1940–1980: KATO Works expands its product line and increases production
1994: Compact Excavator Sales, LLC is founded by Mike and Markie Smith and becomes the North American distributor for IHI compact equipment
2002: IHI Construction Machinery, Ltd. and Compact Excavator Sales, LLC form a partnership
2016: KATO Works acquires the IHI compact equipment line
2024: KATO CES celebrates 30 years in business and continues to grow as a leader in the construction equipment industry
